Three Week Update

Well, our little Elliot is now three weeks old so I figure it's time for a little word-snapshot of how things are going over here. In short, things are great. We are really enjoying ourselves and our little family here. Thanks to my mom being here for the two weeks after Elliot's arrival, I was able to rest and recuperate for two weeks straight. For the first week I basically sat around in my bathrobe, fed Elliot, ate, and slept. Mom did everything else, and (needless to say) with great skill. Ben was able to attend some classes and study occasionally thanks to her, too. All of us stared at and snuggled our little Elliot as much as possible. Mom is gone now and we're adjusting to life as a family of four in NYC. I ran some errands yesterday with the two kids (Aaron in stroller, Elliot in sling) and it was, as suspected, more difficult with the two than it usually is with one. But we'll adjust. I'm enjoying myself, actually. It's kind of strange to get used to the idea of having two kids, but the practice of it is quite fun. Every once in awhile it gets comedically challenging (like when both kids are crying intensely and need immediate attention), but what can you do? Just take a deep breath and deal with one issue at a time I guess. I've got it easy now because mostly what Elliot needs when he's upset is a breast, which I can offer him at almost any given moment. And Aaron is generally understanding, especially when well-fed and well-rested. They're good kids, both of them, and I'm thrilled to be their mama.

Anyway, so life is good. We took Elliot for his two week check-up last week. He weighed in at a whopping nine pounds fourteen and a half ounces, and 23.25 inches long. A big boy! We've decided that he's all torso though (like Ben's dad John, I guess). It's strange because he weighs so much but he doesn't really look like a typical fat baby. He doesn't have the fat cheeks or thighs like I would imagine a ten pounder to have. Heavy bones maybe? Who knows. Who cares really. All we know is he's darn cute!

I have been so struck lately by the fact that we, Ben and Kourtney, have two kids. One day we're just two little smitten eighteen-year-old punks reading Ender's Game to each other and then, kablamo, here we are two smitten twenty-six-year-old punks with two bright and beautiful kids, reading Winnie the Pooh and making Bedtime Rule posters.

Aaron leaning over to give Elliot (unphased) a smooch. This is Aaron's typical move actually-- diving over whoever is in the way to smooch Elliot. Who can blame him? The kid is extremely kissable.

Sleeping burrito

Showing off his little brother (Aaron is usually very protective of who gets to see Elliot. Sometimes I'll pull the cloth of the sling back for someone to see him and Aaron will run over, say, "no!" and cover him back up. Every once in awhile, though, he will peel the cloth back himself to show someone Elliot's face, like this.)

A favorite pastime of Aaron's: playing with grandma's make-up

"Looks good?"

(I know his eyes look rather brown in photos but they really are just very dark blue... right now at least. We'll see how they turn out.)

Here is Aaron on Halloween day with his preschool buddies. After class was over, the teacher for the day (we all take turns teaching) arranged to have a few neighbors give out treats to our kids with their costumes on. Here they all are, costumed and ready to go. In case you can't tell, Aaron is a doctor. He flip-flopped a lot about what he wanted to be for Halloween but finally he decided that he really wanted to be a doctor. We found a little coat and some doctor tools so it was perfect. He liked the doctor tools but he also decided he needed to take along his hammer too, just in case.

Weston, Julia, and Aaron on Halloween, at the Halloween parade (we all meet at a playground, then they block off the street and the kids walk together down the street toward Broadway, then trick-or-treat on Broadway for a block or so. It makes for a nice, safe, short trick-or-treat gathering event for Halloween.)

Are we just biased or is he beautiful?
