Elliot's Birthday

Elliot turned three on October 21st. Since he has looked like a three year old for about a year now, he was ready for it! We had two celebrations: one on his birthday and the other on the Sunday after, with a dinner with family. We were excited that Grandpa John happened to be visiting NYC and could join us to celebrate. We had a great time.

The handsome birthday boy

Elliot is obsessed with swords. If he finds a writing utensil and/or a piece of paper around, he will inevitably ask the nearest adult to "draw me, the knight, with a sharp, sharp sword." We have dozens and dozens of knight drawings lying around the house. There are a few variations. Usually he wants "Aaron the knight" to be fighting with him, but sometimes other people appear in the drawings as well. He gets quite attached to them-- usually sleeps with one or two each night. So naturally, for his birthday cake I made two swords fighting.

Since the day before he turned three, Elliot has been practicing holding up three fingers to show how old he is. We kept trying to get a picture of him showing three (which he usually does i the usua way) but something kept getting in the way. He kept having to show three again, which he was sweet to do because of course all he wanted was to eat his cake. With this three, he got a little lazy and did it funny. It turned out to be the best picture though, so here it is!

Probably his favorite gift of the night: a storybook of Kung Fu Panda. He had me read it over and over again.
It was so great to take time out to celebrate Elliot. He is such a sweet kid and such a clown. I'm always interested to hear what Elliot has to say about the situation at hand. He usually adds something insightful, hilarious, or both. We love him!

My favorite Elliot quotation of the last few weeks: "When I was a baby I used to be Libbie."

Here are a few pictures of Elliot, one from each of the past three years:
