Professional & Family Update: Exciting news alert!
We are delighted to announce that Ben will be serving as a Senior Fellow at C:O/RE, the inaugural center for advanced study at RWTH, Germany‘s proverbial MIT, for the 2022-2023 academic year. The fellowship, based out of an international research center for the history, philosophy, and sociology of science and technology, will speed his finishing the next major book project on the history of Soviet AI as well as several other projects, including a coauthored book on Russian hackers. His work draws heavily on Ukrainian materials and seek to illuminate the changing geopolitical situation.
This fellowship also means, with the good graces of the University of Tulsa and RWTH, the whole family moved in late July 2022 to Aachen, Germany, the most westward city in Germany (as well as a short bike ride from the Netherlands and Belgium).
Here are our plans:
Kourtney, who is stepping away from her teaching position at Holland Hall in order to make this move, is interested in taking the year to re-situate herself in new possibilities that come with the move. She will take the year to explore her many career options, develop and polish her talents, and possibly take coursework in German and data science at RWTH.
Ben will be completing the work of his fellowship.
Aaron, who is visiting Germany briefly in the summer, has enrolled this Fall in St. John‘s College, the second oldest university in the US, where he will pursue a classic four-year liberal arts education with (our guess) likely interests in strategic thought. The curriculum there, we are told, is the equivalent of two double majors in philosophy and the history of science and mathematics as well as classics and literature. We are, of course, delighted with his decision and excited to watch his next steps (which include at the moment brushing up on his Ancient Greek alphabet).
Elliot and Libbie are both enrolling as guest students in Kaiser Karls Gymnasium, a top public German high school for students bound for college study, where Elliot will pursue tenth grade, and Libbie eighth, almost entirely in German. At the moment Elliot is exploring the expanding worlds of e-bikes, mopeds, and soccer here while Libbie designing her own room courtesy of the robust second-hand IKEA market here.
Maya is enrolling as a guest student in the fourth grade at a local public school near our home in Aachen. Her primary interests at the moment include making friends and the barn-sized sandbox in the center of town. Her school year will be entirely in German. None of our children speak German yet.
We are in our third day in Germany now. All of our progress so far has been thanks to several minor international conspiracies of helpers that have brought together, even before we arrived in Aachen, a beautiful rental home, some furnishings (a kitchen is yet to come), two bikes, and much else. We are grateful and looking forward to making our new friends and welcoming many of you to our guest room this coming year!

Es freut uns zu Ankündigungen dass Ben als ein Senior Fellow bei C:O/RE, ein international center for advanced study at RWTH, eine berühmte technische Universität in Deutschland, in 2022-2023 akademischen Jahr dienen wird. Das Fellowship, gegründet in an internationale Forschungszentrum für die Geschichte, Philosophie, und Sociologie der Wissenschaften und Technik, wird ihn seine verschiedene Buchprojekten vollenden helfen. Das erste Buch bespricht die Geschichte der Sowjetische künstliche Intelligenz. Andere Projekte inklusive eine Buchprojekt über Russische Hackern. Sein Arbeit basiert auf ukrainische Material und sucht das heutige Situation zu erklären.
Das Fellowship bedeutet auch dass wir alle später Juli 2022 nach Aachen, Deutschland gezogen. Aachen ist das mehr westliche Stadt Deutschlands. Man kann schnell mit Fahrrad nach Nederland und Belgium fahren.

Mit dieser Umzog über den Ozean, Kourtney, wer hat unterscheidet um eine Lehrerin bei Holland Hall nächste Jahre nicht mehr zu sein, interessiert sich um einen Jahr neue Möglichkeiten zu entdecken und betrachten. Sie wird viele neue Kareermoglichkeiten und ihre Talenten betrachten und entwickeln. Vielleicht wird sie Kürze in Deutsche Sprache und Data Science bei RWTH anmelden.
Ben wird sein Fellowshiparbeit vollenden. Vielleicht wird er Kürze in Deutsche Sprache anmelden.
Aaron, wer ist in kürzlichen Besuch dieses Sommer, hat diesen Fall in St. John‘s College angemeldet. Es ist die zweistellige älteste Universität in der USA, wo er ein klassische Ausbildung in the liberal arts verfolgen wird. Das Curriculum ist, wie verlautet, ähnlich an zwei doppeltes Hauptfachs in Philosophie und der Geschichte der Wissenschaften und Mathematik und auch Klassiker und Literatur. Seine Entscheidung freut uns, sicher, und wir sind begeistert seine nächste Stritten beobachten. Jetzt lernt er neu die altgriechische Alphabet.
Elliot und Libbie werden Gastschüler/in in Kaiser Karls Gymnasium sein, wo Elliot in der zehnten Klasse wird und Libbie, die Achte. In gegebenen Moment interessiert Elliot sich e-Bikes, Vespas, und Fussball. Gleichzeitig interessiert Libbie sich in ihre eigene Zimmerdesign. Ihre Schulunterrichtung wird fast ganz auf Deutsch sein.
Maya wird, hoffentlich, in der vierte Klasse in einer öffentlichen Schule in der Nahe von unserem Haus anmelden. Zu ihren Hauptinteresse gehören Freunde machen und das grosse Sandbox in der Mitte von Aachen. Ihre Schulunterrichtung wird ganz auf Deutsch sein.
Heute ist unser dritte Tag in Deutschland. Alles das wir schon geschafft haben gehört zu einige kleine internationale Verschwörungen Leute die schon uns von unseren Ankunft helfen haben. Wir haben ein schönes Haus in Aachen vermietet. Wir haben einzige Einrichtung, zwei Fahrrades, und noch viel Zuhause. Wir sind dankbar für das Chance, neue Freunde zu finden und viele von Sie in unserem Gastzimmer diese kommende Jahre zu begrüssen!
